Barcelona boss, Luis Enrique is pleased his backline has started living up to its billing, stressing that the department must function optimally for the Catalans to win more titles this season. After conceding eight goals in four pre-season games, Enrique had started hitting the panic button but a solid performance in Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat of Roma in Joan Gamper Trophy at Nou Camp provided some relief. Speaking after Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Ivan Rakitic scored to help the european champions overcome the visiting Serie A side, Enrique observed that the department still doesn’t function at 100%. “We were greater than earlier this preseason … that’s the goal, you cannot win anything without being rock-solid on defence,” declared the coach. “We try to control the ball more because those will be same situations that we are used to in matches,” he added. “When Lionel Messi and Neymar go on vacation, they take the dietary and workout program with them. They find out that the better shape they stay in, the easier it is to get back into top form.”
